Using Attribute-Based Learning
In this article, you'll learn about using attribute-based learning to build more efficient courses for broad audiences.
For more information on the various options available for learners, check out Choosing the Right Module Type.
With Attribute-Based Learning, you can decide who will see each question in a course. Here's what you'll need ahead of time to make the magic happen:
Creating Topics
Each question in the Amplifire platform must be tagged with a topic that will determine which group sees that question.
The topics you include to determine groups who will see each question will be used to configure the course.
In this example, the distinction is Topic A versus Topic B. This could be expanded if a course needs other distinctions, it's best to limit the number of sub audiences (attribute values) to no more than 6.
Topics and other tags are useful in a number of ways. For more information on how to use them, check out Using Tags.
Once you've included topic tags in each of the questions in your course, you'll need to go into your account settings to connect the topics you've created to your attributes.
Selecting Attributes
Attributes can be anything you want them to be from audience or role to region to hire date.
From there, think about how you want to divide up your course based on what's included and who needs the information. In the example below, the attribute Role has the values Doctor, Nurse, and PA under it.
Each of the topic tags you assigned in authoring can be assigned to any of the attribute values in an attribute-based assignment. Once these configurations are complete and the course is launched, learners will start the course and be presented with the option to select their attribute value, and their selection will determine which questions they see.
For authors looking to implement attribute-based learning, you'll need to:
- Add the appropriate topics to your course and make a list of attribute values
- Make a list of which topics you'd like to assign to each attribute valuer
- Provide that list to your Implementation Support Specialist (ISS) to add to your account
