Creating a Blank Course

  • In this article, you'll learn how to create a course from scratch.
  • For information on other methods to build a course, check out Using the Course Planning Wizard.

To create a blank course, navigate to the Course List and click the + New Course button. You will see three boxes. Choose the blank course option.

You will now have a beautiful blank slate to shape your course any way you like. In general, you'll want to:

  1. Name your course.
  2. Provide a course description. This step is optional, but recommended.
  3. Use the Amplifire AI Assistant to create questions and content.
  4. Use the Course Outline to review your course structure.
  5. Open the Help Panel.
  6. Review the options available to you in the Course Page Three-Dot Menu
  7. View issues with your course before publishing.
  8. Add a new section or module.
  9. Add a new module.

Here is more information about each of the course elements you can create in this view:

Module

A module is the container that will hold the questions you create, usually between 8 and 25 questions. There are two types of modules—dynamic learning and Gap Finder.

  • Dynamic learning includes questions and learning, and requires a learner to master all content.
  • A Gap Finder is an assessment. It poses questions and assesses gaps in learner knowledge.

For more information on modules, click here. To view and edit the module details, click anywhere on the module tile.

Dynamic Learning Module

From the three-dot menu beside each module, here are some of the actions you can perform:

Question

From the course home page, you can create the entire structure of your module before you draft each individual question. To do that:

  1. Expand the module with the carrot on the right side of the module tile
  2. Click Add question below the module and select your question type
  3. Name your questions as you create them

You can continue to add questions and modules, naming them as you go, until you have created your entire course shell. Once you're ready to dig in, you can click on any question to drill into it.

Adding Existing Questions

To add a question that exists in your account but isn't in your course:

  1. Click on Add existing questions in the three-dot menu to the right of the module to which you would like to add a question
  2. Search your account for keywords
  3. Select the question(s) you'd like to add
  4. Click Add as new or Add and share to add the questions and return to your course

Adding Unassigned Questions

Once you've created your course, you can still access any questions you either removed from the course at some point or did not assign to a course when you created it using the Course Planning Wizard:

  1. Click on Add unassigned questions in the three-dot menu to the right of the module to which you would like to add a question
  2. Select the question(s) you'd like to add
  3. Click Add to return to your course

Chain Questions

Chaining ensures that sequential questions are delivered in a designated order. To add a question chain:

  1. From the three-dot menu beside the module, select the Chain questions option
  2. Click the boxes beside each question (between 2 and 5 questions) you'd like to add to the chain
  3. Click Chain
